Elkhart Lake (WI), August 4, 2025
The fourth round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America proved to be a tough weekend for Brazilians Kiko Porto (Toyota Gazoo Racing / Banco Daycoval / MC Games / Team: Rafa Racing) and Werner Neugebauer. Despite a promising start from the second row in Race 1, with Porto behind the wheel, the Rafa Racing duo couldn’t convert their strong qualifying position into podium finishes in either race at Elkhart Lake Circuit in Wisconsin.
Race 1, held on Saturday (2), began on an encouraging note for the team. Kiko Porto took the wheel of the #68 Lamborghini and held fourth place throughout the first half of the race, showing competitive pace and smart tire management. The Brazilian driver stayed within the lead pack until the mandatory driver swap during the pit stop.
When Werner Neugebauer took over for the second stint, expectations were high to maintain—or even improve—on Porto’s position. However, the performance didn’t meet expectations, and the car lost significant pace. Multiple factors contributed to the drop in performance, leaving Neugebauer to take the checkered flag in seventh place in the Pro class.
Sunday (3) brought a fresh opportunity for redemption with Race 2. This time, Neugebauer was tasked with the start, lining up in a more challenging ninth place (fifth row) on the Pro class grid. Track conditions and race strategy would need to be optimized for a potential comeback.
The first five laps were run under caution following a Lap 1 incident. At the restart, Neugebauer held his position, working to find rhythm before the driver changeover. The German handed the #68 Lamborghini to Kiko Porto under similar track conditions to the start.
In the second half of the race, Porto took the wheel with the mission to gain positions and secure a stronger result for the team. The Brazilian driver pushed hard, using all his experience to mount a charge from the back of the pack.
Despite Porto’s efforts, the recovery wasn’t enough to reach the top positions. He managed to gain just one spot from Neugebauer’s starting position, crossing the line eighth in the Pro class—though he did climb nine positions overall from the moment he took over. The result fell short of the Brazilian duo’s expectations.
"There’s not much to say right now. The results didn’t come; these were two very tough races. We had a strong run in Saturday’s first race, but after that, we just couldn’t find the pace again," analyzed Kiko Porto.
The next round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America is scheduled for September 18-20 in Indianapolis. Before that, Kiko Porto returns to action on August 22-24 for the fifth round of the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, where he’ll defend his championship lead. The event will take place at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.
