Engines are roaring in Daytona, Florida, as the legendary racetrack hosts the opening round of the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, part of the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) calendar. Among the weekend’s standouts, Brazilian driver Kiko Porto (Banco Daycoval / MC Games / Team: Rafa Racing) shined in his series debut, leading the first practice session with a lap time of 1:53.858 behind the wheel of the #8 Toyota GR Supra for Rafa Racing.
“It was an incredible feeling to drive such a powerful car on an iconic track like Daytona. We’ve started strong, but there’s still a lot of work ahead,” said Kiko, who is competing in the GSX class, featuring 15 other drivers. Across the P3 and GTDX categories, a total of 35 cars will take center stage in this weekend’s high-speed spectacle.
Kiko’s performance in the opening practice session impressed Rafa Racing, a team with a strong tradition in touring and endurance racing. The Brazilian quickly adapted to the Toyota GR Supra, effectively maximizing the car’s potential during his first outing on the challenging American circuit.
Later this Friday (17th), Kiko Porto will take part in the second practice session at 5:20 PM (Florida time), 7:20 PM in Brazil. On Saturday (18th), the qualifying session is scheduled for 8:40 AM local time, 10:40 AM in Brasília, followed by the first race at 2:00 PM (4:00 PM in Brazil). On Sunday (19th), the second race, wrapping up the weekend, will kick off at 1:20 PM (3:20 PM in Brazil).
Kiko Porto approaches the challenge with his usual determination and the confidence of a driver aiming for even more remarkable results. “This is just the beginning of a journey that can deliver highly positive outcomes. I’m excited and focused on getting the most out of every session,” emphasized the driver, proudly representing the Brazilian flag in the IMSA competition.
