It was a week full of highs and lows for Kiko Porto (Banco Daycoval / MC Games / Team: Ansa Motorsports) and Nico Jamin, as they competed in the sixth and final round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America at the Circuito de Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. The duo entered the event with a shot at the PRO class title but faced setbacks that dashed their championship hopes.
Driving the #104 car for Ansa Motorsports, the pair shone during qualifying. Nico Jamin secured P2 for Race 1, while Kiko Porto clinched pole position for Race 2, reflecting the team’s progress in fine-tuning the car throughout the week. “We didn’t have the best car at the start of the week, but the team worked hard to put us in a position to fight for pole,” Kiko commented.
On Thursday (14th), in Race 1, Nico took a hard hit on the left door right after the start, compromising the car's performance and dropping to midfield. Kiko took over in the second stint, managing to claw back positions. As he battled for second place, a repeat collision with the same rival sent him off the track, ending hopes for a strong result. “It was a tough situation; the videos clearly show what happened. The same car turned left and hit wheel-to-wheel with me. Unfortunately, my front wheel locked up, and that was the end of our race,” the Brazilian driver lamented.
In Race 2 on Friday (15th), Kiko started strong from the pole and held the lead through Turn 1, only to be rear-ended heading into Turn 2, dropping to sixth. Nevertheless, he handed the car over to Nico in fourth, who fought hard but finished in the same position. “I had a great start, took the lead in Turn 1, and then got hit from behind going into Turn 2. We managed to finish fourth, but it was far from the result we were aiming for,” Kiko emphasized.
With the weekend’s conclusion, the duo wrapped up the season third in the overall standings with 120 points—an impressive feat for Kiko in his debut GT season. “It was a very positive year. We secured three wins early in the season and proved we could fight for the title,” the Pernambuco native reflected.
However, Kiko also addressed the recurring incidents in the series, which had a significant impact on the championship. “Unfortunately, the category has been struggling with crash-related issues. It’s not just me; many others have been affected. Over the last three rounds, we lost about ten cars because of collisions. It’s been a big talking point and cost us a lot in the end,” he remarked.
Kiko and Nico will be back on track at Jerez de la Frontera this weekend for the Lamborghini World Finals, where the best drivers from the North American, Asian, and European divisions will compete. It’s another opportunity for the young Brazilian to showcase his growth and chase the world title.
