Two intense races defined the weekend at the North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo, held at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) during the fourth round of the 2024 season. This competition is part of the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) program, which includes several other racing categories. Brazilian driver Kiko Porto (Banco Daycoval / Team: Ansa Motorsports) and his French teammate, Nico Jamin, missed the podium this time, but they are already focused on their next challenge in Indianapolis.
On Saturday (31st), during the first qualifying session, which determined the grid for race one, Kiko and Nico clocked a time of 2 minutes 5.959 seconds, securing fourth place in the PRO category. In the second qualifying session, track conditions deteriorated, and lap times increased for everyone. The ANSA Motorsports duo set the sixth fastest time, with a lap of 2 minutes 6.615 seconds.
Also on Saturday, the first race of the weekend took place, with Nico Jamin starting the first stint. After a solid pit stop executed by both drivers and the team, Kiko Porto took over the car and rejoined the race. Following a few yellow flags, Kiko was fighting for the front positions when, during an overtaking attempt, he got tangled with a competitor, spun, and ultimately finished in seventh place.
On Sunday (1st), the day of the second race, it was Kiko's turn to start from the fifth row overall. The Brazilian driver made a strong start, executing several overtakes before handing the controls of the No. 4 Lamborghini to his French teammate. In the end, the pair finished the race in fifth place in the PRO category. While it wasn’t enough to reach the podium, they remain in contention for the season title.
“We struggled with the car’s balance since the practice sessions, which led to a tough qualifying and a starting position further back. Starting from behind makes it challenging to reach the podium due to the traffic from the other categories,” commented Kiko Porto after the race.
Kiko Porto and Nico Jamin will return to the track on September 20th, when the Indianapolis round kicks off, the last event before the grand finale of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, in November.
